Quarter Mile for a Cure
How it began
www.quartermileforacure.com

Kelly’s Mother, Carolyn, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2001. Later that year three more relatives were also diagnosed. On Kelly’s 30th Birthday she was diagnosed with Stage II Estrogen Receptor Positive breast cancer. While receiving chemotherapy in 2002, Kelly felt compelled to join me in the drag racing fun as a driver, rather than a crew member. After some passes in our ’69 Mustang to see if she really liked it, a ’63 Falcon became available for her to race.

With all the attention the 6-cylinder Falcon was getting, she felt that she needed to do something to help bring more public awareness of breast cancer to the drag racing community. We coined the phrase “Quarter Mile for a Cure”. With the support of the Southern Arizona Mustang Club and Southwestern International Raceway, an annual drag race event was established to raise funds for local Breast Cancer Charities.

McLearran Racing proudly displays a Pink Ribbon with checkered flags logo on Kelly’s Falcon to promote breast cancer awareness at each venue we’re at, whether is drag racing, a car show, or just a cruise night. We regularly make charitable donations to breast cancer charities.

Our hope is to continue the annual “Quarter Mile for a Cure” race at SIR and increase the exposure nationally to funds and awareness to help find a cure. Sadly, Carolyn lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer on February 13, 2007.
